Welcome to Heading Home K9 Rescue!

Did you see a dog that caught your eye? Ready to start the adoption process? Happy to help! Feel free to email the dog's listed contact with any questions you have...the dogs live in our homes with us so we know them very well. Please also download and fill out the preadopt application (Heading Home K9 Rescue Preadopt Application) and email it in to the listed contact for the dog(s) you are interested in. We read through the application, check references, and once approved (we aim for 24-48 hours to approve or deny), we set up a visit with you and the foster home or direct you to an adoption event to meet the dog(s). Fosters are more than happy to answer questions that arise. We all want a good match the first time, and a successful experience for the adopter and the dog.
After meeting, you can choose to outright adopt, or do a foster to adopt, where you complete an extra form and gain a 1-2 week period to see how the dog adjusts, and if the fit between the dog and your home is right. We encourage adopters to give it a MINIMUM of 3 days. Returning a dog before that period means it never had a chance to settle in and show you what the true personality is like. Moving dogs between homes is stressful and not in the dog's best interests. We are here to support you after adoption also, answering questions and helping make the process as positive as we can. We highly recommend you read the tips in this packet (Adopting 101) before bringing your new dog home...it will help greatly ease the transition and make it a positive experience for everyone!

Our adoption fees are non-negotiable and average about $350 which includes their vet work-spay/neuter, vaccinations, heartworm testing (if old enough), and deworming. Often the vet costs far exceed the adoption fee, especially on our special needs dogs. We rely on adoption fees to be able to continue to rescue more dogs in need.

NEXT PET ADOPTION-- Our next pet adoption will be on Sunday February 25th from 12-2 at the Bloomington Chuck and Dons

REMINDER: It is always a good idea to email the contact listed in each dog's bio to find out of s/he will be attending an adoption event before making the drive. Many dogs do not attend the adoption events.

HEADING HOME DOGS LOOKING FOR HOMES:

Name: Alex
Breed: Yellow Lab Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Alex is a 6 year old Lab mix surrendered when his elderly owner passed away, and he is such a good dog. VERY overweight right now, he is working on walks and less food and the pounds are coming off. He is reliably house trained, not a chewer, mellow, gets along well with dogs and cats. Alex is an easy dog, a people pleaser, whose world has been turned upside down and he is working hard to find his place. He is about 80 pounds and should be 60. His tail is always wagging, and that burns calories, right?

Requirements: No special requirements

You can email kladams4545@gmail.com with questions and for a preadopt application. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated as age appropriate, tested for heartworm disease if age appropriate, and dewormed.

Bacardi gets to us from her foster out of state March 10th, and is available then. Since she came from a rural environment, we are seeking a home with yard space for her over an apartment please. She would love a home to call hers soon.

Name: Ballet (Adoption Pending!)
Breed: Doxie
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Ballet is a female 2 year old Doxie who came from a home where she was someone's constant companion. Two years old, good with other dogs and cats, she is outside and pee pad trained ( but expect a transition with some accidents, especially as she is moving from Alabama to MN and the cold/snow!). Bella is used to an adult home and a home where she has company most of the time. She's needy and wants to be in a lap or next to you as much as she can, so please only apply if she would be with someone most of the time. She takes her job as companion dog very seriously and is so full of love and affection.

Requirements: Someone home most of the time.

You can email kladams4545@gmail.com with questions and for a preadopt application. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated as age appropriate, tested for heartworm disease if age appropriate, and dewormed.

He is working on manners, he likes to jump still when excited, and loves going for walks. He is house trained. He is available February 10th.

Previously starved and left alone all the time, he is a gentle soul and wants to badly to belong somewhere. He caught onto the house training very quickly, although please know going somewhere new he will need an adjustment period, and crates well when alone. His crate is a place of security for him. A little shy, he is affectionate and blossoming in foster care. We see periods of play and fun loving puppy coming out. He loves his toys, walks, and being talked to. Beckham likes cats, dogs, and kids. He has some growing to do, and a whole lifetime of loving his people ahead of him. He is available Feb. 10th.

Age: Adult
Gender: Female

Bella enjoys walks and greeting new friends along the way, the dog park and making new dog friends, and hanging out at home being loved. She has a submissive and gentle personality, and is easy to love. Previously a backyard dog, she is learning the house training very easily-- she's a people pleaser-- and crates when left alone. She hasn't had a lot of time spent with her but soaks up the time and training now, and remembers what she has been taught. She is available Feb. 10th.

Name: Bosco
Breed: German Shepherd/ Rottweiler Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Bosco is a big, handsome 3-4 year old Rottie/Shepherd mix who is loyal, loving, and quite the goofball. He is happiest following his person around for hours on end, finding some funny mischief to get into, and always is ready for a scratch and some love. Bosco came into rescue with serious hip issues that made it difficult for him to lead a normal life. We expected him to need surgery but as it turned out his issues are too severe even for surgery to correct. He has little to no muscle in his back legs making surgery a poor choice.  Bosco is on lifelong pain management, joint supplements, and injections of Adequan (synthetic joint medication). Now this sounds like a pretty poor quality of life, nope, not for Bosco! He is so happy to be pain free for the first time in a long time that he plays like a puppy, he runs, he fetches, he counter surfs (naughty boy!), and is overjoyed for every minute he gets to spend having fun. We don't know what his life holds long term. He might eventually be a surgery candidate, he might not. He might live a shorter life due to the severity of his injuries or he might live a normal lifespan. We simply cannot predict so he needs an adopter who is willing to commit to whatever his life brings and willing and able to emotionally and financially commit to continuing to manage his pain and hips so he can live pain-free. Bosco is excellent with other dogs, adores people of all ages, and has never met a stranger, only new best friends. He does need a cat-free home. He is housetrained, crates well for the workday, loves to chew on bones and toys. (Photo courtesy of Ciao Bella Photography)

Requirements: Medical special needs. No cats

Name: Bounce
Breed: Pit Bull Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Did you say car ride?! Yes! Say those magic words and you have a friend for life in Bounce. Okay, let's be real. In her mind any person who opens their car door for her is her bestie in her mind. While she does enjoy a leasurely stroll, her heart is set on driving around town. Bounce is the type of dog that knows when it's okay to be crazy and when it's time to lay down and chew a bone. She minds her manners almost perfectly in the house. She is house trained, crate trained, doesn't chew up anything she's not supposed to, and not a barker unless she really needs to go out. Bounce came into rescue because she was left unsupervised with a toddler and the toddler sustained a nip/scratch. With no other information about the situation, Bounce was blamed and she was no longer wanted. Bounce lives with cats and dogs in her foster home. The cats she became friends with right away, but the dogs took a slower introduction. She grew up as an only dog, so deep down she would love to be an only dog again and not have to share her stuff or her people's attention. That's not to say she hasn't made any canine friends, she's just picky about who she likes (Aren't we all?). Because of the unknown circumstances of the nip on the small child, we are seeking an adult home for her just as a precaution. If you are looking for a snuggly, adorable companion to share your home, your couch, and your adventures, please consider Bounce. She will bring so much happiness to your life..

Requirements: Adopter must own home due to breed mix. No kids. Prefers to be the only dog.

You can email kladams4545@gmail.com with questions and for a preadopt application. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated as age appropriate, tested for heartworm disease if age appropriate, and dewormed.

Name: Brandi
Breed: Shepherd Cross
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Brandi is a 9 month old, 40 pound female Shepherd mix ( likely German Shepherd/Australian Shepherd) who was raised in a home with kids, cats, dogs. She is already house trained and crate trained, and a well adjusted and happy dog who loves to go for daily walks and see the dog park and then come home and climb up on the couch for some petting time. She is smart, good natured, and well socialized. She is not available to adopt until mid March as she is in a foster in KY until then. Brandi has so much potential to be the best family dog, an obedience or agility dog, or companion animal. She's a great dog.

Requirements: No special requirements

Name: Brody
Breed: Border Collie/ Lab Cross
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Brody is an outgoing dog who loves walks, outside play time, dog parks, dog play, and finding his toys. (Especially the squeaky ones.) He is about 32 pounds and a year old, and his foster home believes him to be an aussie pointer mix because he shows behaviors of both breeds. He is outgoing, and always good mood, but does need a moderately active home, or a home with another dog to play with--or perhaps one that would love to frequent dog parks because of how much he enjoys playing and socializing with everyone he meets. Brody thinks everyone is his friend, people and puppies alike, (even the little kids) and almost never stops wiggling. He has a really happy go-lucky attitude and is currently living the puppyhood he likely never had, so he does get into some mischief here and there, but is certainly trainable for someone who wants to put the effort in. He could also use a little extra meat on his bones to survive these Minnesota winters, as he came from down south and is not a fan of the cold.  Brody is housetrained on a schedule, but has been learning to wait by the doors when he wants to go out. He is crated while his foster humans are gone at work, but because he is an active dog he needs chews and Kongs as boredom busters for that down time. Once he gets his exercise too, he is an absolute snuggle bug and will lean into you for pets. Brody’s only real dilemma in life is which toy to play with and spends his evenings entertaining himself by collecting the toys in the house and pouncing each and every one for hours until he tuckers himself out.

Name: Buddy
Breed: Black Lab Cross
Age: Senior
Gender: Male
Description: Buddy is a senior ( 8 years) Lab mix, smaller and shorter than a purebred Lab, seeking a calmer adult home he can join. That being said, he sure enjoys the company of other dogs, loves to gently play with the other old Lab at his foster home. He is reliably house trained, crate trained, not a barker, and listens when asked to do something. He is okay with visiting kids, but prefers to live with adults, and doesn't enjoy a home with a lot of people coming and going often. Buddy loves walks and toys and bones. He'd do perfectly keeping company another old dog who wants a buddy, or a person wanting a mellow middle aged Lab. Buddy is fine with cats. He has been treated for heartworm.

Best suited for an adult home with no kids or other pets, she is a loving dog. Chopper is house trained and crate trained, and enrolled in a training program currently. Name: Daisy
Breed: Dalmatian Cross
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Daisy is a skittish and shy petite female Dalmation, previously an unclaimed stray from KY, who needs a very specific and special home. She is never mean, but her fear of new people is rooted very deeply inside her. She took almost 6 months to come up to her foster for pets, although she loves walks so much that it didn't take long for her to crawl up and shove her head through the slip lead to be able to go for a walk to the park. Daisy loves leash walks, and loves running at the dog park. Where Daisy is very afraid of people, she adores other dogs, and loves to play and run and chase with them. She plays like a puppy when it's dogs and no stranger people. She is reliably house trained, will crate but does fine gated into the bedroom for the workday, and is very easy to live with. She does bark when new people come into the house, then bolts into the bedroom to hide. She will likely never be a 'normal' dog, but she has her endearing qualities and we love her. She does require a home with a fenced yard and another dog. She's excellent with cats.

Requirements: Fenced yard and another dog in the home

You can email kladams4545@gmail.com with questions and for a preadopt application. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated as age appropriate, tested for heartworm disease if age appropriate, and dewormed.

Name: Faber
Breed: Lab/ Pointer Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Faber is an adult male Lab/Pointer type mix, probably about 10 breeds mixed in, all rolled together to create a fun, happy, playful big dog who is seeking a home with a fenced yard preferably, and someone to commit to daily physical playtime and walks. Faber came to rescue skinny, hairless, weak and sad, and has blossomed into a healthy, playful, fit dog. His exercise needs are beyond what his current caretaker can handle physically, as he does still jump up sometimes in play, and needs some leash manners. He loves kids, loves meeting new people, lives with a cat, and does well with other dogs. He could use some leash socialization skills with other dogs, he comes on too strong, but loves off leash playtime at a dog park. Faber is house trained, crate trained, and minds his manners in the house. His only lasting physical scars from his past are small areas on his rear end where the hair may never grow back since the skin was so scarred. He carries no emotional scars, his life is all about making new friends, having fun, and living in the moment.

He is a bit of a homebody besides walks, he likes his comfort and familiar place. Fabio is doing well with house training and is crated when alone. Name: Finn
Breed: Pit Bull Cross
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Finn is an adorable 50 pound Pit Bull mix with a heart of gold, and a silly, outgoing, social personality. He firmly believes he is a lap dog and will cuddle for hours with you. Finn enjoys the dog park, and with his enthusiasm and energy does need an active home to give him an outlet. He loves walks and playtime, and currently enjoys the fenced yard but needs mental and physical stimulation. Finn has always lived with another dog, and enjoys their company a lot. He has also lived with cats, and loves the cat more than she reciprocates. Description: Leta is a senior 15 pound Sheltie/Spaniel mix who came to the shelter crawling with fleas, she had itched most of her fur off... now flea free, it is growing back. She loves other dogs and people, but does chase kitties. She appears to be housetrained and crates if needed, but behaves well without one also. She's an affectionate and good natured little dog. Leta so badly deserves a loving home to fatten her up, and love her.

Name: Lilly
Breed: Lab Cross
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Lilly is an active, smart, outgoing adolescent Lab mix seeking a home as an only dog with an adopter wanting a very smart dog to exercise and train. She lacks social skills with other dogs, which sometimes results in her reacting to their excitement by engaging in a fight, which is why we want a single dog home for her. Out and about she enjoys greeting them and is happy to meet on walks, just is not a dog park dog, and ideally living alone. She does like to harass the cats also. She is excellent with people and enjoys being taught. Lilly is house trained and crate trained, knows some basic commands, and loves to play with her toys and go for walks outside, even in the cold. She'd be a fantastic agility or obedience dog.

Requirements: No cats. No dogs.

Name: Max
Breed: Shepherd/ Collie Cross
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Max is all about fun, adventure, sharing his joy and love with everyone he meets, and playtime. He never gets tired of playing, and would be happiest in an active home with another playful dog to run and play with him, or an adopter who commits to daily walks/runs. He is very social and likes everyone he meets instantly and without hesitation. He's good with kids, strangers, men, women, and all other dogs, although he'd probably be wearing on a senior dog. He likes cats, but when he's bored he bugs them to play too, so it needs to be a very dog savvy cat. Max is house trained, crate trained, and although he is physically fully grown, he is mentally still a puppy. Obedience, play, and exercise are required daily components of his life. He makes you smile and he makes you find new friends when you have him out and about.

Name: Misty
Breed: Yellow Lab/ Boxer Cross
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Misty is a young adult female Retriever/Boxer mix, about 60 pounds, and her bouncy joyful personality and happy grin win over everyone she meets. She loves kids, other dogs, wants to play with the cats and enjoys a good chase, and that stub tail is always wagging. She is doing very well with house training, and crated when alone. Misty needs a daily walk and some toy time, for the exercise and the social aspect, then settles down well. She's very smart and responds well to training. She is puppyish still even though she's at least a year old. Since she came from a rural area, we do want a home with yard space ( fenced or unfenced) for her.

Name: Oakley
Breed: Belgian Malinois
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Oakley is a young adult, Belgian Malinois who has seen a lot in his short life and not much of it good it seems. He came in emaciated, covered in buckshot pellets, and terrified of the world. Quick movements, hands reaching towards him send him to the ground expecting the worst and belly crawling away to avoid being hurt. Give him a few weeks to settle in, build up trust, and gain some confidence and you have yourself a total puppy of a dog who loves to run, play, fetch, swim, and have a blast. He is the stereotypical super smart, high energy Malinois once he is comfortable in a home. He is living the puppyhood he never got to have before and loving it. He is still extremely nervous outside his comfort zone and with new people so looking for a home who will do some serious confidence building and training to show him that the world is a safe place and new people are not to be feared. He needs a home who has the experience and patience to work with a fearful dog and the experience and time to work and train the happy, wild Malinois boy he becomes once he settles in. Oakley is good with other large breed dogs, but no cats or small animals for him. Oakley is working on his housetraining, crates for the workday, and is learning to mind his manners in the house which he does fairly well at as long as his energy is burned out. He would be best in an experienced, adult home who will continue to train and socialize him properly. He does require a physically fenced yard. We do not ship our dogs so please keep that in mind if you are outside the MN/WI area.

Requirements: Fenced yard. No cats. Adult-only home.

Name: Popcorn
Breed: Yellow Lab/ Boxer Cross
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Popcorn is a young adult female Boxer/Lab mix, 45 pounds and a year old. She got the name Popcorn because she has the Boxer bounce when excited, and she makes us think of fun when we see her. Popcorn is a social dog who loves people, gets along with kids, enjoys other dogs ( but does not so much enjoy sharing her toys with them)and when she met the cats, she showed curiosity but not any aggression. Popcorn can be found cuddled in a dog bed with a canine companion, standing by her leash hook waiting for a walk, in the nearest lap, or sitting patiently by the car, waiting for a ride. She is learning the house training and is crated when alone. Popcorn is not available to adopt until mid March as she is in a foster down south until then.

Name: Rex
Breed: Pit Bull/ Shepherd Cross
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Rex is a young male Pit Bull/Shepherd mix who wears his heart on his sleeve. A sweet, gentle boy this guy hands out kisses and cuddles to everyone he comes across. He’s never once met a stranger, only his newest best friends. He sure has a lot going for him…housetrained, smart, knows basic obedience and a few tricks, minds his manners well in the house, and has incredible social skills. Rex is a social butterfly, happy to play with every dog he meets and greet every person. He is excellent with other dogs and loves to play with them. He’s active and playful without being hyper and is happy to relax on the couch after he gets a long walk and some playtime. Rex does have a downside…he has pretty severe separation anxiety. What that means in a home for Rex is that we are looking for someone who is home more often than not, willing to invest in a sturdy, reinforced crate for when they are gone, and someone who is willing to continue the training to minimize the anxiety when they leave. This is a tall order, we know, but Rex is extremely worth it. He has one of the kindest hearts we’ve ever come across in rescue. He is everyone’s best friend. Rex is absolutely best friends with another dog in HHK9, Rocko. Both have severe separation anxiety and actually do better when kenneled together. We realize adopting out these two as a pair would be practically impossible so they are available separately but if there is a home out there looking for an already established, loving pair who fits together perfectly, please consider these two. They choose to spend the majority of their time together either playing, cuddling, or even chewing on the same toy/bone. They’d love to find their forever home together. Photo courtesy of Ciao Bella Photography.

Requirements: Adopter must own home due to breed. Someone home more often than not, willing to invest in an "indestructible" kennel, and will continue training for the separation anxiety. No cats.

This HHK9 canine has tested positive for a heartworm or tick borne disease and treatment will be done through our vet before an adoption is finalized, so that we can do our part to ensure a healthy happy dog joins your home. Heartworm treatment consists of a 2 day treatment at the vet followed by 4 weeks of restricted activity, and placement timing is on an individual case by case at the comfort level of the foster and adopter. Tick diseases are treated through oral antibiotics sent home with an adopter by the rescue.

Name: Rocko
Breed: Pit Bull Cross
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Rocko is a younger adult Pit bull mix who is determined to make everyone a bully breed lover. He is loyal, adores people, dog-friendly, housetrained, knows some basics, and an absolute champion snuggler. He lives for his walks and playing fetch in the yard but his most favorite thing ever is swimming. He turns into a fish around any body of water and spends hours splashing and playing. Rocko is active and outgoing but settles down once his energy is out and is happiest snuggled up with another dog or a human. Rocko sounds like the perfect dog and in almost every single way he is except for one thing…Rocko has severe separation anxiety. What this means in a home for Rocko is that we are looking for someone who is home more often than not, willing to invest in a sturdy, reinforced crate for when they are gone, and someone who is willing to continue the training to minimize the anxiety when they leave. He has made tons of progress in the time he has spent in rescue already so we know he has the ability to be successful with continued time and training. He just needs someone willing to commit to him and his needs. Rocko is absolutely best friends with another dog in HHK9, Rex. Both have severe separation anxiety and actually do better when kenneled together. We realize adopting out these two as a pair would be practically impossible so they are available separately but if there is a home out there looking for an already established, loving pair who fits together perfectly, please consider these two. Name: Rose (Adoption Pending!)
Breed: Shepherd Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Rose is a 3-4 year old Shepherd mix with goofy ears that can't quite decide what to do.  Sometimes they flop, sometimes they stick straight out to the sides, or they each do their own things!  She is a cute, medium sized (45-50 lb) pup who blends together the manners and training of an adult dog with a fun, playful puppy spirit.  She is housetrained, crates well for the workday without a fuss, and minds her manners in the house.  Rose absolutely lives for her daily walks and would love those to continue in her forever home.  She dances with complete joy when the leash comes out and is always up for an adventure.  Her leash manners are great and she knows a few basic commands.  She is equally always down for couch snuggles especially on these cold nights. Rose is great with other dogs and she loves to play and wrestle with them.  She has been with cats and while not outright aggressive to them she does love a good game of chase so is best in a home without.  Kids also top the list of Rose's favorite things.  Rose has some energy but tires nicely with walks and playtime in the yard.  She desperately wants to please her people and loves knowing what is expected from her so she can follow through and hear she is a good girl.  Rose is a loyal, loving, sweet dog who has been waiting to be chosen for far too long.  She can't wait to go to her forever home and spend the rest of her life being someone's best friend.

Requirements: No special requirements

Name: Rosie
Breed: Chocolate Lab Cross
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Rosie is a young adult female petite Chocolate Lab mix, likely 1-2 years old.  She is a very gentle dog, loves kids, and seems to really enjoy other dogs.  She is currently fostered with a dog, cat, and kids.  With the cat, she is showing high interest but no aggression.   She'd likely be fine with slow introductions and patience but it may be a process (think days/weeks, not months).  She's doing excellent with housetraining on a schedule and lots of visits outside after naps, any crate time, or when she's sniffing around.  She's been accident-free for days now.  She has been crated for short times and overnight so far and does fine.  She goes right in with a treat and the few times she's put up a fuss, it's so quiet and for less than a minute--it's really no issue at all.  She's calm but silly dog and will scoot to you and put her head in your hand.  And she's quite the little lady and often lays with her paws crossed.  She's a BIG fan of giving kisses--lots and lots of kisses.  She has shown a little fear with fast hand movements; she may have had some previous harsh corrections or unkind hands.  But, she is very drawn to people and excited to see and meet all.  She's a happy girl. She was someone's backyard dog and is experiencing things for the first time. The gratitude she shows to the comforts of indoor living and having toys is amazing.  She would likely do best in a home with a yard only because she's used to it. Rosie did test positive for heartworm and is currently recovering from the treatment. She's doing great but will need a bit of laziness and low key activity for a month--it's very manageable.  She available for lots of love and cuddles in the meantime.  This is one sweet dog that will make an excellent addition to a home.

Name: Sam
Breed: Viszla Cross
Age: Senior
Gender: Male
Description: Sam is a senior ( 9 years) Viszla mix dog who needs a new home with not so much kid commotion. He is never aggressive or dominant, but the addition of small children to his life has resulted in some anxiety that shows with always being on the lookout for food, including that in the kids hands. When the kids go to bed he relaxes and settles back into his old self, the more mellow and calm guy. He is house trained, loves walks, is well trained inside and would be a perfect companion for someone who has kids that visit or no kids. He just wants a peaceful place for his senior years. He absolutely loves to sit outside so a home with yard space is ideal.

He is good with other dogs and enjoys kids. Shadow is a country dog, would be thrilled to have a home that not only has a large yard or acreage to be on, but also someone who walks... he loves to go adventuring with you. Description: Star is a 1.5 year old 30 pound spayed female Beagle/Spaniel mix. She is very sweet and gets along great with other dogs of all sizes. Star is house and crate trained. Star is afraid of cats, respects them very much. She can be a little shy and needs a patient adopter willing to help her gain some confidence and give her time to settle into a new home. Star was adopted from a shelter in KY in November and then lived outside on a tie out with 2 goats and 1 dog. Star is great with kids but will run to her crate with fast movement and loud noise, so a home with a quiet and gentle kid, or older kids, is ideal. She's a docile, soft hearted, sensitive soul. Name: Striker
Breed: Pit Bull
Age: Senior

Description: Striker is a 9 year old male Pit Bull who came to rescue after spending 11 months in animal control, which says a lot about his character... not many dogs can maintain a friendly attitude and their sanity after that long in a kennel, but something about him persevered and during that, he charmed everyone he met. Now in a foster home, he is thriving. He loves blankets, lots of them, and is very mellow and relaxed in his crate but behaves himself equally well when left loose. Striker is house trained. His favorite toys are tennis balls, and he plays a mean game of fetch. He's about 60 lbs and is treat motivated which helps with training. Name: Toretto
Breed: Pit Bull/ Mastiff Cross
Age: Young Adult Gender: Male
Description: Toretto is a big pittie with sweet pleading eyes and a totally loving heart that hides a past that would make most dogs never love again. Found as an unclaimed stray, he was on death's door, emaciated, and too weak to even move on his own. After lots of vet care, TLC from his amazing foster, and good food, Toretto is ready to find his forever home! He is a big sweetheart who thinks he is a lap dog...don't tell him he's far too big for that! He is housetrained, crates well for the workday and still needs a crate since he is living the puppyhood he never got to have before and likes to get into some mischief. Toretto is good with other large breed dogs but does like to play rough so best in a home with a dog who can match his play style or an owner who will continue to teach him to be gentle. He is not good with small dogs or cats. From being starved for so long he does have the typical starved dogs behaviors...he needs to learn to be gentle when taking treats, will swallow soft toys thinking they are food, and eats at the speed of light but with training and as he is learning that food will always be provided these are diminishing. needs a home who wants to continue do the training with a big dog to teach him the manners he missed out on before and continue to socialize and remind him to be gentle as he propels himself right up into everyone's lap. He would be best in a large breed or bully breed experienced home.

Requirements: No cats. Adopter must own home due to breed. Fenced yard.
