Any Sherlock Holmes fan will recognize where Basil Rathbone got his name.  Like the character of his namesake, Basil is a smart, inquisitive, witty, happy dog.  And like his namesake he has some quirks that must be accepted by any adopters.

Basil is a happy dog that loves car rides and loves getting out for his new adventure when he reaches his destination.  He likes going on walks and hiking state parks.  At home he likes playing in the yard with his family and toys, getting treats, and sleeping on the couch.  He is very loyal and loves his family and makes sure to protect you by alerting you to visitors or deliveries.  The delivery people like him because he jumps into the truck, inspects the packages, and waits for a treat.  He knows his basic commands  of sit, lie down, stay and come.  Sometimes his Sherlock side comes out though and he would rather go investigate things than come when called.

His quirky side is that he cannot be in a home with other animals.  That is non-negotiable.  He wants to be the only pet and in fact if other pets come over it is probably best to put him in a different room.  He tries to be nice but sometimes snaps and he starts a fight.  And small furry or feathery animals do not stand a chance around him so he absolutely needs to be kept away.  A person cannot think they can change him because they can't.  He is who he is.

He loves people though!  He has sat in the middle of big thanksgiving gatherings with 40 people calm as can be and just watching people and looking for food scraps to fall.  

He is going to be great partner for the person/family who can accept him for who he is, warts and all, and appreciate and focus on all the great things about him.  Like how fancy he is with his bow tie! A home visit WILL be required to adopt him.
